The General Assembly:
Taking into account the applicable United Nations resolutions and the Oslo Peace Agreement,
Concerned that the recent actions by the Government of Israel will hamper the progress achieved in finding a permanent solution to the Arab-Israeli peace process,
Observing with great dismay the recent loss of life in the region and the possibility that violent conflicn might once again resurface,
1. Deplores Israel's recent decision to build a settlement in the disputed region of East Jerusalem;
2. Also deplores the recent escalation of violence in the region;
3. Urges Israel to stop building settlements in East Jerusalem;
4. Calls upon the Palestinian Authority and Israel to meet immediately in order to stop the violence in the region;
5. Futher calls all involved parties to stop aggressive action and to continue negotiating to achieve an equitable solution to conflict;
6. Requests the Secretary General and other interested mediators to offer his good offices in order to solve the current situation.
