
Resolution on: Child Labor Submitted by: The Republic of Ireland THE GENERAL ASSEBLY, 01 Outraged by the numerous incidence of child labor worldwide, 02 Alarmed by the fact that 40 percent of all child deaths in the United States result from 03 agricultural labor, 04 Disheartened that children in rural areas abandon proper schooling to work in the fields, 05 Disgusted by the deplorable working conditions that children are subjected to in child 06 labor camps, 07 1.Calls upon the development of an international organization to work to end child labor 08 and put children back in a safe, educational environment; 09 (a) with financial help from the United Nations International Children's Endowment Fund 10 (UNICEF), the International Labor Organization (ILO), and the non-political organization 11 known as Save the Children, 12 2.Authorizes the foundation of an international organization to combat the growing 13 problem of financial burden among families, so that the extra income created by the child 14 is not such a necessity; 15 3.Declares that an international organization will be developed to monitor the working 16 conditions of all work environments; 17 4.Recommends that the jobs being filled by children be offered to able-bodied adults in 18 need of work; 19 5.Strongly supports the work of manufacturers who, when realizing the inhumanity of child 20 labor, ceased the practice in India, where a large percentage of products were being 21 manufactured by children; 22 6.Expresses its hope that companies guilty of such a horrendous offense as child labor will 23 realize the inhumanity of their actions; 24 7.Emphasizes the importance of an end to child labor worldwide.
