India feels that this resolution is still lacking
even with the added amendments. First and foremost,
is the government of the United Kingdom going to
dismantle all of its nuclear weapons? India asks
this question, because the fourth to the last
preambulatory clause declares all nuclear weapons
and material illegal. Has Her Majesty's Government
decided to forego all of its strategic weaponry?
How about the United States, France, Russia, and
more close and dear to my country China? Are they
willing to diband their arsenals?
India considers this possibility unrealistic and
is also worried about the elimination of small arms
in Operative Clause 8. Therefore we will oppose
this resolution because it just is too comprehensive
and unrealistic to be put into effect.
Resolution UNOL-R2 has many flaws. India asks
my colleague from the United Kingdom to withdraw it
or radically alter it in order to meet the
concerns raised by my country and my other colleagues.
